Asking and Giving Permission adalah ungkapan yang digunakan untuk meminta dan memberi ijin dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Berikut ini kami sajikan contoh ungkapan yang sering digunakan untuk meminta ijin:
        May I come in?
        May I go now?  
        You may borrow three books from the library
        Can I borrow the book ?
        May I look back to the first screen?
        Do you mind if I stand up right here?
        Is it all right if I answer your question at the end ?          
        Dad, can I go to the movies with Tim tonight?

 

Dari contoh di atas, kita dapat melihhat untuk membuat   kalimat meminta ijin(asking for permission)dimulai dengan frasa-frasa berikut ini

1. May I …?/ Bolehka saya…
2. Can I …?/dapatkah saya…
3. Could I …?/Dapatka saya..

Untuk memberikan ijin cukup dengan menngunakan frasa seperti yang disajikan berikut ini
        Yes, you may go
        Certainly /Sure/OK!
        Go ahead! That’s OK

        Eric                  : Mr. Smith, may I go to the bathroom?
        Mr. Smith         : Not right now, Eric. You need to be working on your essay.
        Eric                  : But I really need to go to the bathroom.
        Mr. Smith         : Why didn’t you go during your break?
        Eric                  : I had to go see Mrs. Miller to get help with a math problem.
        Mr. Smith         : Okay, that was a good use of your time. You may go, but come right    back, okay?
        Eric                  : Okay, thank you.
